Amanda Cao is back in MIT after the MISTI Global Teaching Labs at LFG Bon Soleil
This January, I had the wonderful opportunity to teach at Lycée Français de Gavà Bon Soleil. During the month, I prepared and led classes for the first year Biology and Chemistry students. I also guided students through experiments in a laboratory sciences class and delivered guest lectures to the second year Biology students. I stayed with the Korontini family (Agnes, Kostas, Ophelia, Athina) who really welcomed me and made sure I had a great experience, and I loved getting to know everyone in the family. I really enjoyed sharing my experiences and my passion for science with the students and in turn learning valuable lessons from the students and faculty here. Spending this time in Catalunya and interacting with the students has made me a better teacher and communicator as well as a more educated and well-rounded person. Even as I return to the states and resume my classes at MIT, I’ll always remember this experience fondly, and I hope that this program proved to be a positive experience for the students here as well!
I feel so fortunate to have had such a great time here and I especially appreciate all of the people that have made this experience so special for me. I would like to thank Mr. Urfels and all the faculty for welcoming me at LFG Bon Soleil and I would like to thank Xavi Tortosa especially for entrusting his classes to me and for his mentorship. I would also like to thank all the students I had in class for their participation and their willingness to learn alongside me.
Finally, I am extremely grateful to the Korontini family for opening their home to me and for all of their kindness and help as I adjusted to living abroad for the very first time.
Thank you all, and good luck to all of the students in their future endeavors!
